Cold air through fireplace

Postby anthemresident » Mon Mar 05, 2018 3:11 pm

When our fireplace is not in use, a large amount of cold air blows into our living room through the vents of the fireplace. Other than shoving a towel into the vents, does anyone have an effective method to block this airflow? Thank you.

If your fireplace is leaking outside air into your living space then it may also leak hazardous combustion gasses (including carbon monoxide) into your living space when turned on.
First thing you should do is check the manufacturers web site, find a local dealer, and have them come out and check your fireplace.
Some local fire departments also come out and check fireplaces for leaks.

If you are not the original owner of your home it is possible that the former owner installed a fan (I did that but found zero benefit so removed it).
